Patients

The University of Ottawa Orthopaedic Program specializes in the care of the Musculoskeletal System. Our surgeons take great pride in offering our patients world class care.

Surgery Process

Not once during my time at the Ottawa General Hospital did I ever feel I was being neglected or forgotten. I felt like I was being cared for by family, not strangers. The entire staff is to be commended and I thank them all for their care and attention. Words cannot convey my gratitude.

“The surgery went extremely well, the Surgeon was fantastic and all the Hospital Staff were expertly helpful and courteous. I am on my way to recovery and I thank everyone for your help.”

“I was very nervous and fearful about this surgery. Dr. Stratton put my wife and I totally at ease and gave us a high level of confidence going into the surgery. I would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone who is in a similar situation as I was in. You should be very proud of her. You are lucky to have her on your staff.”

“Dr. Abdelbary and Dr. Meghan, his resident, and the entire surgical/anesthetic team responded to my health situation with clinical mastery that I did not know was even possible. The care was delivered with skill, gifted communication, compassion and inspiring excellence. Thank you for all the wonderful care I received. And I’m happy to report that while I may never get through an airport metal detector quite the same way, I am well on the road to recovery. Thank you.”

Referrals

Patients that want to be seen by a physician from the Division of Orthopedic Surgery must have a referral from a primary care physician or specialist.

We recognize that access to orthopedic care can be difficult due to extended wait times for some orthopedic subspecialties. We prioritize each consult based on medical urgency.

Preparing for Surgery

Please select the location where your surgery will be taking place.

Surgery

When you come for your visit, we encourage you to bring with you a CD containing recent imaging that you may have undergone in the recent past. If you haven’t had recent imaging we will need to have some X-rays during your visit. As we are a teaching institution it is very likely that you will meet/interact with a learner. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We look forward to meeting you and providing you with compassionate care and a world-class experience.

Follow Up Visits

For follow up visits, patients should be given their next appointment date and time before they leave the hospital or outpatient clinic. If you did not receive your appointment at that time, you must call the appropriate clinic directly to schedule this. The clinic information for both campuses is below.

Note: Do not contact individual surgeons offices to book follow up appointments.
